Jonathan Yuen and Alvin Tan are two designers from the graphic and visual fields whose expressions cannot be more different. Collectively, they share their differing perspectives and discuss visuals as a form of communication. Moderated by Justin Zhuang.


Speaker: Jonathan Yuen, Creative Director, Roots


Jonathan Yuen is a multi-disciplinary graphic designer and director of design studio Roots, which he founded and based in Singapore. His designs, interactive and advertising work have been recognised on both local and international levels.


Alvin Tan is a Singaporean creative director, designer and artist. He is also the co-founder of art & design collective PHUNK, fashion eyewear label Mystic Vintage, and creative advisor at entertainment outlet CANVAS.



Justin Zhuang is a writer and researcher with an interest in design, cities, culture, history and media.His books about Singapore design include Independence: The history of graphic design in Singapore since the 1960s.
